I've never been a conventional thinker. In 1990, age nineteen, I left home to try this new thing called "backpacking" a year and a half travelling with no smartphone, no plan.
My BBC career started not long after, back then programmes were on tape and the Spice girls were just getting started. My job was to climb inside an executive producer's vision and work out how to make it real; filming, budget, schedule.
I loved that intersection and still do: what does this need to deliver, to whom, why and how, evoking an action or a reaction.
That instinct is how I ended up on the small team that launched BBC Three, and pioneered self-shooting crews, long before the smartphone.
After taking redundency and having a stint as a PR Exec I founded Purple Square.

Being an outlier in a male-dominated industry shaped how I see things and made me a vocal advocate for women in tech and creative.
It's also why I've always treated content as a holistic craft, not a series of channels.
I've been an early adopter at every turn. AI is the most interesting one yet the first time technology has changed both how content gets made and how fast we can learn from it.
Right now I'm doubling down on longevity, health and beauty sectors I genuinely care about, alive with momentum.
Content has more moving parts than ever; strategy, operations, data, craft, AI, and an omni-platform customer waiting at the end of it. Bringing those threads together is what drives me to help you.

Renamed Purple Square Content to mark the move upstream into category research, content roadmaps and the senior thinking specifically around content and creative. The thinking on what content to make and why, before anyone briefs production. With the explosion of content demand, this is now its own role, and one we're here to explore with you.
It goes beyond omniplatform content strategy into the detail of the creative itself, the creative strategist role that gets you to killer ads and higher ROAS. Brief writing is where most brands fall down, and where this work earns its keep. The making runs through a trusted Production Lab. AI is daily practice, not headline. Beauty, health and longevity stay the focus.

2022
Beauty and health specialism, as influencer marketing takes off. Narrowed to a single category; beauty and health ecommerce, where we'd already started to build real experience.
The work moved into high-volume production for performance advertising, supporting brands running paid acquisition at scale, and laid the foundation for the strategy-led model that followed.

2018
Personal brands and the smartphone era. Working with coaches and consultants building personal brands and courses, including working with many of the UK's best-known business coaches of the time. Trained hundreds of entrepreneurs to film on their own phones, I launched courses on editing and YouTube growth, and spoke across the personal-brand and coaching circuit.
2014
Short-form emerges. Pivoted to food filming and white-label partnerships with creative agencies, producing and directing large-scale shoots for well-known household brands. Branched into OOH advertising, roadside, exterior and in-store and started working with brand managers in beauty.
2011
Earning trust for video itself. Started Purple Square in 2011 (formally incorporated 2015 as Purple Square Productions Ltd, still the registered entity today). Full-service production for corporate and financial services clients, with animated explainer video a big part of the work, when much of the job was still convincing businesses that video belonged in their marketing at all.
1992
BBC. Fifteen years across live broadcast, promotions and documentaries. Part of the small team that launched BBC Three. Pioneered self-shooting crews in 1995, long before smartphones.

Built by women, on principle
In an industry where women are still significantly underrepresented behind the camera, in the edit suite, and in strategy Purple Square Content is female-built and female-led by design.
Our network is intentionally women-first. We hire women, work with women, and support each other's careers in a trade where women still leave too early.
We can't fix the gap on our own. But being part of the solution rather than part of the gap is non-negotiable for us.
